I am only posing this as a thought and do not agree or disagree with your comments:
I saw a lot of "this is a REPUBLIC" focus during the smoking ordinance hearings. The people against it felt we weren't operating as a Republic. One guy went to the mic at a City Council hearing and shouted the Pledge to the council members. His side let out a huge cheer when he was done.
So I guess my question is: When you disagree with how things are going, do you accuse those in charge of violating the Republic to accomplish their goals when they don't align with yours or do you accept that sometimes, in a Republic, those in charge make decisions that we don't like?
I don't see the topic of a local smoking ordinance relating to the discussion of a republic based upon a constitution, but more of a state's rights issue.
Now if people don't agree with me, then they are simply wrong.
